A true legend of the opera world, William Powers has been gracing the stages of some of the world’s most famous opera houses for over 50 years.

Coming out of semi-retirement for this one night only event, we are thrilled to welcome him to our Paradiso space for a memorable evening of music. This intimate venue will allow the audience to be up close and personal with one of the greatest opera legends of our time.

Powers, leading bass-baritone of the Metropolitan Opera, transforms with costumes and props into some of opera’s most notorious villains, performing arias from Faust, Don Giovanni and others; followed by American Song Book favorites such as I’ve Got You Under My Skin, and The Impossible Dream.

Since making his New York City Opera debut in 1972, Chicagoan William Powers has performed over 100 operatic roles with the major opera companies in the United States, Europe, and South America. While the stylistic range of his portrayals spans the gamut from Renaissance (Monteverdi’s ORFEO for San Francisco) to Contemporary (Pasatieri’s SEAGULL for Washington DC), William Powers has earned a reputation as a “heavy” – due in large part to the dark, penetrating color of his voice – thus the portrayal of rogues and villains has dominated his career.

Take the hassle and stress out of night out with complimentary parking right next door and enjoy a specialty cocktail in our Paradiso bar as you’re serenaded by one of opera’s greats!

The Athenaeum Theater is a very special place. And the starting price for this evening of opera is only $30, $15 for clergy!

Order tickets directly from the theater here.
