Open Space Arts invites you to join us for our next Queer Expression Film Fest screening at FACETS Film Forum, part of our ongoing Gay Movie of the Month series.
The Divine Tragedy is a bold, emotionally rich LGBTQ+ drama that explores what happens when love ends—and reinvention begins. The film follows Cristián, a refined and traditional gay man whose carefully constructed world is shattered when his wealthy husband Carlos abruptly abandons him after a 24-year relationship.
Suddenly forced to rebuild his life from the ground up, Cristián finds himself living with his half-brother Roy, a wild, sexually hedonistic free spirit who seems to embody everything Cristián fears and resents. As their clashing lifestyles spark conflict, humor, and unexpected intimacy, the two men are pulled into a complicated reckoning with identity, family, and the messy truth of desire.
Directed by Sergio Tovar Velarde and written by Orlando Manrique and Velarde, The Divine Tragedy features standout performances by Artús Chávez, Pablo Gómez, and Eduardo España—delivering a story that is as provocative as it is deeply human.
“A funny, tender, and unabashedly sexy exploration of love, heartbreak, and family bonds—The Divine Tragedy brings humor and heart to the journey of two very different brothers learning to coexist.”
These monthly screenings celebrate bold, intimate, and internationally acclaimed queer cinema, bringing powerful stories to the big screen while creating space for conversation, community, and connection. Each program is thoughtfully curated to showcase filmmakers whose work explores identity, desire, and human connection with honesty and artistry.
Screenings take place on the final Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at FACETS Film Forum (1517 West Fullerton).
We often choose a nearby spot to gather for a casual, informal dinner before the screening, so keep your options open and watch for those details as the date approaches.
We hope you’ll join us for an evening of compelling queer storytelling and shared cinematic experience.
