Second Annual Summer Picnic
Relax in the park, enjoy good food, and cool off at your own pace.
Join Chicago PrimeTimers for our second annual laid-back summer picnic in the park. As part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, this is a free CPT event, with the club covering the cost of the park permit and a catered hot lunch. We’ll have a reserved covered pavilion with picnic tables, making it easy to sit, eat, and socialize comfortably rain or shine.
We’ll be returning to the same pavilion we used last year, located in the Irene C. Hernandez Forest Preserve on Foster Avenue. The pavilion is just west of the public pool.
You’re welcome to enjoy the day however you like. Relax in our covered pavilion, bring a lawn chair to enjoy the shade of the mature trees, take a walk on the nearby trails, play games, read, visit with friends, or simply enjoy the day. If you’d like to swim, bring your swimsuit and take advantage of the nearby park district facility, which is about a 10-minute walk away.
Lunch will be served at 2:00 PM, and we’re welcome to stay in the park until 6:00 PM, so there’s no rush.
We’ll have bocce ball, plastic horseshoes, and other lawn games available. If you’d like, bring a deck of cards or a set of dominoes and enjoy the shaded tables for a relaxed afternoon of conversation and play.
CPT will provide a catered buffet lunch featuring Italian Beef Sandwiches and Chicken Limone from Moretti’s Ristorante & Pizzeria.
We ask that everyone bring an appetizer, side dish, dessert, or beverage to share. Please fill out what you’re bringing on the Perfect Potluck form so we can avoid duplications:

Other items can also be added to the form. If you’d like to bring fresh fruit, fruit salad, or something else you think would be appropriate, that would be very welcome.
If your item needs a serving spoon or utensil, please bring a disposable one with your dish. If you want to make sure your serving dish or utensils are returned to you, please label them clearly with your name.
After lunch, representatives from PrimeTimers Worldwide will make a special presentation recognizing Chicago PrimeTimers’ 25th anniversary. We’ll also take a group photo after lunch.
CPT will supply trash bags, paper plates, plastic utensils, and water. Please bring anything else you’d like to make your day comfortable and fun, such as chairs, sunscreen, hats, or a cooler if needed.
Adult beverages are allowed, but park district regulations require no glass bottles or glass containers in the picnic area.
Please note: there is no electricity or cold storage in the pavilion, so please be careful with any food that needs to stay cold. Public restrooms are available about a three-minute walk from the pavilion. These are typical public park facilities, not porta-potties.

The park entrance is at Kilbourn Avenue & Foster, on the north side of the street.
The public pool is at Lowell Avenue & Foster, on the north side of the street.
The pavilion is a short walk west of the pool.
There is plenty of free parking available in the park.
Public transit is also an option: the CTA 92 Foster bus runs along Foster Avenue, with stops nearby.
