PrimeTimers Movie Matinee: LA BOLA NEGRA at the Music Box!
Directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi — the team known as Los Javis — this sweeping Spanish epic follows the interconnected lives of gay men across different periods of Spanish history, exploring love, desire, identity, memory and the legacies queer people leave behind. The film was inspired in part by the work of Federico García Lorca. The Guardian
And it arrives in Chicago with quite a pedigree: Calvo and Ambrossi won the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and the film went on to win the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival — one of the festival world’s most closely watched awards-season honors. Now Spain has officially selected La Bola Negra as its entry for the 2027 Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, giving this unabashedly gay story a remarkable place on the international awards stage. Archive
